In spite of all the stories we hear about possible contaminants in the water supply, most people have water that is safe to drink, especially those served by a large municipal water system. However, well water should be tested periodically for coliform bacteria. Additionally, if the property is located in an agricultural area, the water should be tested for nitrates, and if the home is more than 30 years old, or if the plumbing pipes are joined with lead solder, then the water should also be tested for lead. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) requires water tests for bacteria, nitrates, nitrites and lead.

The EPA, recommends ANNUAL testing of private wells for bacteria and nitrite/nitrate chemical contamination. In addition, water should be tested every three years for sulfate, chloride, iron, manganese, lead, hardness and corrosion.

Other reasons a water test may be warranted:

  • lender may require a water test prior to loan approval
  • well located downstream from a septic system
  • use of lawn fertilizers, salt or de-icers near the well

Testing more than once a year may be advisable in certain situations:

  • pregnant or nursing household member
  • unexplained illnesses in the family
  • any change in taste, odor, color or clarity of the water
  • a neighbor tests positive for contaminants in their water
  • any dumping of chemicals, pesticides or fuels into or near your well
  • if any part of your well system has been replaced or repaired

What can we do for you?

The Inspection Boys perform the full EPA POTABLE WATER test that includes test for coliform bacteria, lead, nitrates and nitrites. Using specially designed receptacles, samples are taken from the closest point of entry such as a kitchen or lavatory faucet or tap – different tests require different sampling techniques and specific protocols. Please call for more information.

The FHA/VA BasicPlus Drinking Water Test Kit supplies the necessary equipment to quickly and efficiently collect a drinking water sample
within a clean, complete, and professionally crafted package. EMSL has created this informational drinking water package which, in the absence of any specific local or state analytical requirements, is based upon the FHA & VA minimum panel for drinking water contaminants. Accordingly, your drinking water samples will be analyzed for Total Coliform, E. coli, Lead, Nitrate, Nitrite, and Turbidity plus Iron, Manganese, and pH.

The corresponding informational water quality testing report will be issued within three business days of sample receipt and will compare
your sample results to national standards that are defined within the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Primary and Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. Federal public health goals as well as state, county, municipal, and local health department regulations may recommend stricter standards for the same target contaminants. Therefore, these test results are intended to be used for informational purposes only and are not intended to be used for state or regulatory compliance. Should you require laboratory state certification or licensing, please contact EMSL prior to placing your order so that we can confirm the specific certifications and/or licenses required.

One drinking water test kit represents a single drinking water outlet. If you require testing of multiple drinking water outlets, you will need
to purchase one water test kit for each outlet to be tested. These kits shall not be redistributed to third parties. The corresponding
informational water quality testing report will be issued to the original drinking water test kit purchaser only.

3 Day Lab Results. Lab Fees Included With Purchase.
